Happy 31, Oxbear!

The Big Guy of the house began his 31st birthday by checking the A/C unit out back before he left for his weekly work-out and breakfast with the guys.

“Fan’s not spinning,” he came in to tell me at five-something. “I’ll call someone to come look at it.”

They would be out Monday.

Puck’s gift to his dad was a package of “swirly gummy mustaches”, which they shared of course. Because when you’re eight years old, it’s still really hard to gift something brightly colored, sugar-packed, and edible without also hoping to participate in that gift yourself.

Everyone was on hand to celebrate birthday at the Silverspoon house. A box of fancy whiskey waited on the counter for Oxbear’s gift. And while the three boys fooled around with an impromptu photo shoot in the basement, Gloria prepared fajitas for lunch.

About this time, you could feel the storm arriving. In fact, storms had been arriving more consistently lately, and it was about time. Awhile after Izzy took Puck back to our house to hunt up a saw to finish his handmade table in the garage, the skies opened. Heavy rain. Theodore happened to be out for a walk to loosen up his back after driving thousands of miles to Texas, around Texas, and back from Texas.

The brief deluge over, Izzy and Puck returned in the middle of a conversation about black holes, I think.

Considering that it might be some time before Oxbear and I actually have an opportunity for a date again, we took advantage of a Longhorn Steakhouse gift card, leaving Puck to spend the night at the Silverspoon’s.

Steak and grilled corn on the cob for Oxbear.

Cheese and bacon fries for me. But not just any cheese fries. This plate of fries was probably about as long as my torso. Even passersby took note of the enormity. I polished off about half, and that was pushing it.

Dark storm rolling in from the west.

During the deluge: Target for a portable fan. With the A/C being out, we decided it might be necessary for the next day or two until something could be done.

I’m not sure how it happened, but we ended staying up till about one o’clock in the morning watching “Interstellar”.
