Hersheys Hour
After the frost of the previous morning, rain had returned to St. Louis on the dark day of continued world market falls.
But back on the ranch, things went on as usual. Dad was off work for the day. Puck played “kitty” with his Tante Carrie, and begged sips of tea from her glass of blossoming brew, who, while waiting to hear from Boeing, had sent out an application to Boulder, Colorado, for a science research/writer position.
“I guess I’ll have to learn how to ski,” she joked.
And while algebra commenced, Puck spent a happy hour and a half in his playpen, listening to old learning tunes from the years of home school in the ’80’s.
Linnea pulled out a boxed tie-dye kit which had been given to her by Gretyl for her 11th birthday before leaving for choir.
She had plans for a new shirt. After bringing down her wood box of secret mini Hersheys chocolate bars, she and Collette had a little feast watching the old Parent Trap until Linnea realized the time and dashed upstairs, dragging Frances with her. They were almost late to pick up Eleda for choir.
When Puck woke from his nap, Carrie turned on the tribal fusion music in the living room. Puck, on his own initiative, pulled out her red coin hip scarf, and brought it into the living room for her to tie around her waist. Later, he donned it for himself, and jingled through the house.
The day ended with the house being empty except for animals. Everyone had an errand to run or a job to work. And Dad and Joe were out to remedy the mini van, who had found itself a flat.
