In which there is a day at home to work on nothing very particular at all…
The day began with…
Registering for the Classical Conversations Practicum as a Director.
Booking a hotel for the three days.
Cooking corn on the cob and making mashed potatoes.
Wrapping gifts for Anneliese’s and Henri’s daughter’s birthday parties.
Egyptian Magic on a scratchy face.
During lunch…
“I’m going to sit in your seat, dude,” said Puck.
“Did you just call me ‘dude’?”
“Yup. Sometimes I call you that. And sometimes I call you ‘Mama’. I love you, Mama.”
During Puck’s Quiet Hour, Collette caught up on Dr. Wintershine sermons and the very first episode of Doctor Who with the very first doctor, in An Unearthly Child.
A white cat with a caramel tail walked through the back yard. It was not uncommon to see prowling beasts around the house.
And for the middle part of the afternoon, Collette and Puck spent some time out in the cool gray.
At a quarter after eight, Ivy dropped by to pick up a ‘mystery key’ that would hopefully unlock her house, as she had been locked out and Nicodemus was in Seattle. The key ended up being for the church, but Ivy managed to get back inside the house by cutting out the screen of the bathroom window, which had remained unlocked for just such a possible occasion. But not before her young nephew had suggested…
“We can handle this, Aunt Ivy. I’ve got a rock!”
Meanwhile, their goodbyes having been said to Joe, he spent his last day finishing packing, taking a last physical, supposedly meeting with Yaotl for the movies, and wrapping up time with the family, intending to take a midnight-leave approach, arriving in Cimarron at three o’clock the following afternoon.
“I made them drive too fast and eat like Vikings.”
