Home for the Day

Saturday, September 6

Puck continued his celebration of art that morning. Leaving the kitchen for a minute or two, Collette returned to find Puck happily covering the walls in giant scribbles with a charcoal pencil. He smiled widely with chubby dimples and went back for another round as Collette rushed in to confiscate the pencil.
She plunked him in his high chair with two sheets of paper and several drawing utensils.
Later it was time to head to the store to pick out two frames for the prints from Venice which Mom and Dad had purchased for Collette and OLeif four years ago. While there, they also added a small container of blueberry yogurt to the cart for Puck. He was happy with this purchase.
By the afternoon, Puck was ready for a ride around the neighborhood with his dad, while Collette skated. The air was just about ready for autumn.
Back inside the house, away from mosquito city, Puck saw the bananas sitting in the bowl on the table. That was all it took.
“Anana!” he erupted in smiles.
Climbing the chair, he grabbed the two bananas and began to slug them together in ecstatic banana glee. Then he set them on his head and giggled.
