I Like Boys
Two late game nights in a row found me sleeping in while Oxbear made eggs and bacon for the boys Friday morning.
At around ten o’clock we finally meandered out into the world, the four of us. Target called: school supplies, summer shorts for Joe. And one little beauty that Oxbear saw hanging on the rack:
“MOM! PLEEEEASE!”
Puck stared in awe at the Minecraft Creeper hoodie. But this was a different kind of hoodie. This hoodie zipped up all the way to the top of the hood, leaving Puck ensconced from waist to scalp in nothing but Minecraft. I had seen this novelty in my Korean shows years ago; I guess the fad finally reached the States. It also might have prompted me to say “yes”.
Maybe it was because vacation was almost over, but Oxbear was feeling wallet-happy. We stopped at Starbuck’s where he tacked on a non-coffee strawberry frappuccino for Puck and a treat for me.
“Wow,” I noted, looking in the paper bag at not one, but two cake pops. “You’re throwing money around like a star baseball player.”
He followed up this performance with the Culver’s drive-through for lunch.
Back home, Yali grinned widely over the burger I decided we would split. He pretty much danced a happy burger dance through the entire meal. I think Puck chucked in a cheese curd or too, also. Spoiled rotten.
Movie nights are usually a gamble around here. For years the Snicketts siblings have gathered in our basement to vote on which terrible film we will watch for the evening. But there is a difference between terrible-terrible and amazing terrible. Sometimes we get something in between.
Tonight, it was 1989’s “Teen Witch”. And it was one of the better ridiculous amazing-terrible movies we’ve seen, with lines and lyrics like:
“Look at how funky he is!”
And:
“I’m hot … and you’re not … but if you want to get with me I’ll give it one shot. Top that!”
By the time the film ended a little before ten o’clock, we concluded that Rose should make one of the key musical pieces her new ringtone – “I Like Boys”.
“I’m throwing out my doll house, I’m giving up my toys. I realized this morning I like boys.”
