I Love Her

In which Puck decides his future after deep contemplation and careful study…

Puck had new thoughts about his future…
“Mama, I want to marry Anneliese. I love her.”
“Well, that’s nothing so easy,” Collette replied. “She has to love you too.”
“She loves me. She drew a picture of me. Remember?”
“Well, maybe one day, if you love each other, you may marry each other.”
“I know that. So I want to ask her.”
“Well, you’d have to ask her dad, first.”
Puck thought about this for a few moments…
“Well… I’m a little bit shy. Could you ask him for me?”
“You have to be a man. Dad had to ask Grandpa to marry me too.”
Again, some studied thought…
“Well… I will ask him.”
Collette wasn’t sure how this love bug had hatched, but it had hatched in a hurry. Wasn’t it just the other day one of the dads at church told her that his daughter had been passed love notes in class? And she was only six. Younger and younger…

Puck and Collette toasted each other with equal tablespoons of chocolate chips, in the cold, gray mid-morning.

After Puck’s Quiet Hour, he emerged…
“My room’s dark now.”
He had managed to lift the cardboard cut-out back into the window with no help. Somehow.
“How’d you do that?” Collette asked him.
He grinned…
“Because I’m a pretty strong punk.”
Then he put his wellies on the opposite feet, on purpose, and hiked out to get the mail.

And Albert Pujols had come in 5th, and Lance Berkman 7th for NL MVP of 2011.
