In which papers are printed and family is visited…
A little breath.
To the office to make up the bulletins and complete the last of nine weeks of work in the office. Fastest summer to date.
OLeif joined her to study, send out the mailing, and bring back a breakfast croissant sandwich. In return for his gentlemanly endeavors, Collette was able to offer him a can of lukewarm Pepsi.
All loose ends wrapped away and tied up neatly; it was 12:45, and time to call it an end.
Back to the Silverspoon’s to see their Puck.
He had enjoyed a wonderful twenty-two hours, stuffing himself to overload capacity, being hit in the head with a frisbee by his papa (with nose-bridge-scratch to prove it), and later…
Microscope, marbles, dark chocolate hazelnut bars…
At lunch, he had spoken words of wisdom to himself…
“The Japanese eat with their elbows on the table.”
“Oh, yeah? Who told you that?”
“You did. A long time ago, Mama.”
Genealogy. Grandpa’s side.
Ridiculous.
About the time Collette discovered that Mom and Dad were related as thirty-something cousins for the third time that day, and that Dad’s links now extended to Scotland, Sweden, and Norwegian kings… she decided to call it a break.
Somehow the subject of marriage was broached in the afternoon…
“I’m gonna marry Anneliese one day,” said Puck.
“Are you sure about that?” Gloria asked him.
“No, I will. And it’s going to be real. I have to ask Anneliese’s mama first.”
“You’re not in any hurry, are you?”
“Look. It’s real.”
“Oh, I know it’s real. But are you going to get a job to take care of her first.”
Puck put a finger on his chin in thought.
“I’m gonna get a job by selling pictures.”
Then Gloria got busy designing birthday cards for Scott’s 60th birthday party that night, for which they left shortly later while Izzy cruised the mall with Stacie-June.
And Puck went to town on a bowl of strawberries and ‘sour’ green apple slices.
On the way home, Puck talked about his heels as being ‘balloons’.
In other news, Rose sold her car to the Rum family, who bought it on the spot, due to its excellent condition and Joe’s fabulous detailing skills. Just like new. The Fiat 500 dream was coming true after all…
