In January
The holiday began with a fancy pancake breakfast because Dad was home, seeing as it was a bank holiday. Puck was very happy with this idea, and continuously asked for “More, more!” as soon as the last pancake had been finished.
Then while Francis second-breakfasted on sausages and a quarter-gallon of chocolate milk, he and Collette continued their algebra session.
By the afternoon, Mom and Dad left for a fast, cold winter walk and run, respectively. And Joe and Rose were back from Tennessee and immediately off to work again. Their semester would begin the next day, already. And OLeif had a rehearsal at the seminary chapel for Tuesday’s Winter Presbytery Meeting.
Most Januarys seemed to be the same.
That afternoon, Collette frittered away a half hour supervising another session of basketball practice with Francis and Linnea while Puck buzzed around the gymnasium. Francis gave him several roaring rides around the carpeted floor in a plastic foot-powered car, which he thoroughly enjoyed. And Linnea purchased a can of root beer from the vending machine.
