In the Red

Puck sat down to another breakfast, jacketed in red footies, despite the heat…
“Smooth as glass my yogurt is,” he noted, digging the spoon into the creaminess. “But not now it isn’t.”
He followed Collette into the hall to brush his teeth and jumped – now shorts-and-shirt – into the tub, running in place…
“I’m jogging! This is good for ya, so I should do it!”
While Collette watered the patch of mint after nine o’clock, Puck joined her in the just-past balmy mid-morning…
“Could I just stay out here and watch the sun rise, Mama?” he asked joyfully. “I’m going to inspect things with my fork.”
Once Puck’s cheeks were toasted rose, Collette brought him back inside for books…
“Just enough for my rocks to settle down and have a nice little sunshine,” Puck commented on the rock towers he had composed on the stoop.
Time to shear the hair.
Collette was thinking mohawk… sort-of mohawk.
Which Puck received during an episode of “Wishbone”, followed by an Australian beeswax rub.
They read about baseball in the afternoon. Puck saw a picture of the Phillies Phanatic…
“Mom? Was that Fredbird when he was twenty years old?”
And only 106.9 outdoors.
Child’s play.
To accompany the rolling thick fleece blanket of heat, Rose arrived at 7:30 for Bing’s favorite film – “The Red Shoes”, including memorable quotes such as…
“Attractive brute!”
“It is much more disheartening to steal, than to be stolen from.”
“Depends on what it is,” Rose cut in. “What if it was a piece of candy?”
“He has… no heart.”
“I’m going to start saying that whenever anyone leaves the room too,” Rose grinned.
“Why do you like to dance?”
“Why do you like to live?”
“I should say that one too,” Rose snickered. “So when someone asks, ‘Why do you like root beer?’, I’ll say, ‘Why do you like to live?’”
