It's a Rainy Day

Monday, April 27, 2009

It was a favorite sort of morning for Collette. Perfectly green leaves rustling under dark gray skies, just before the rain laced the lawns. And the drizzle continued throughout the day, pouring through the new green forests budded with white dogwoods and rosy redbuds.
Collette should have known the rain was coming before it arrived. Her leg hurt, anticipating the rain, now that it had been injured. OLeif’s knee sometimes did the same thing when rain was inevitable.
Between math sessions, where Linnea was Collette’s newest pupil, Francis and Linnea were busy blending smoothies in the kitchen with loads of ice cubes. Francis powered his with a green energy drink, and Linnea’s with bunches of purple grapes.
And Francis fixed the old lawn mower in the garage.
Meanwhile, Mom, Carrie-Bri, and Puck were out running errands to complete Carrie’s wardrobe and pick up some groceries in the spring rain.
By the afternoon, Francis and Linnea were setting up domino races for Puck in the living room.
When OLeif returned late from work that evening, wrapping up another project, he explained his lunch to Collette: he, Alfonso, Chuck, and Rose had visited Aldi for ingredients to make chicken dip, a package of chocolate chip cookies, and a box of orange sodas, which they munched in the basement while watching the Sci-Fi channel. And Rose had washed the dishes. However, Collette asked OLeif to warn her in advance next time, so that the laundry would not be piled in a basket on the kitchen table and the floor unmopped.
