January 30
Another Saturday, another basketball game.
While OLeif was at his continued weekend seminar that sunny morning, Collette and Puck lit out for Linnea’s fourth game of the season.
The first half was near enough close to have a hope of catching the tie. And Grandma Combs had brought a box of donut holes to share with the kiddies during half-time. But when the teams returned for the second twenty minutes, the green team was ready and rapacious. Although it was almost entirely certain that if Linnea’s and Eleda’s team had landed the basket every time they shot, they would have won the game. They were fast, but their aim was uncertain.
After the 14 to 28 loss, Collette and Puck arrived at the Silverspoon’s for the rest of the day where Collette learned that Izzy was planning to go to Hungary in the summer, just as she had nine years ago.
In the mid-afternoon, Collette picked up OLeif from his seminar, after which they dropped by the library for nearly the last day of ‘Replace-Your-Library-Card-for-Free’.
They were surprised to see a coffee machine and two glass study rooms newly installed in the CP branch. The SP branch was reportedly ready to transform their current building into two stories and a fireplace as well. Someone, somewhere had been making sizable donations to the St. Charles City County Library District.
The rest of the early evening was spent dropping off a belated Christmas gift of truffles to one of Theodore’s clients, shopping at Sam’s, etc., before returning for an episode of White Collar and OLeif-made paninis on the new panini grill. [Izzy was out with a buddy to see a play].
It had been a full day.
That night, the white pearl of a full moon rose above the black trees.
