The morning…
…began with looking up old The Happy Hollister mysteries to add to Puck’s book collection at a later time, during which Collette came across a website that Rose had sent her of ‘Muslim swimwear’, which were no less than full bodysuits. Rose had also passed on a web film from 1949 featuring cities of ants and had discovered that the original Journey to the Center of the Earth soundtrack was now listed on iTunes for ten dollars.
Collette also had a bit of a sore throat on the right side and a dry one on the left.
Doctor Who soundtrack, at Puck’s request, while he worked on a leftover waffle and OLeif’s deck of playing cards, insisting that he only liked ‘the red ones’.
Books…
Children of Africa and Neighboring Countries: Maasai beaded necklaces, Israeli falafel and cheese and potato burekas, Tanzanian handballs made out of wild tomatoes wrapped in grass, wearing black threads around one’s neck in Ethiopia to symbolize that one has been baptized, Jordanian shurba: soup of yoghurt, rice, onions, and pasta, Ghanaian plantains and gold, traditional Egyptian koshari: rice, noodles, tomato sauce, and onions… Always fascinating, cultural differences.
Poetry. On a child’s level, which Puck thought rather comedic.
Lunch…
Grilled turkey sandwiches.
Wedding video on VHS, as shot by Magnus. Somehow six years ago seemed more like twenty. Collette still always half-convinced herself that it had all taken place in the 80’s. Sometimes reliving old times was a very strange sort of experience…
A very quiet hour, in which Puck hardly spoke more from down the hallway than to ask one question…
“Do frogs have bums?”
Over in St. Peters that afternoon…
Word on the street was that the sixth semi-annual Madrigal Dinner was in its first stages of production. It had now been ten years since that very first presentation and Collette had found a very purple Medieval costume at Chad’s Theatricals. Carrie had been a little more creative and had even styled her own double-coned ‘wicked stepmother’ headdress. And now it was Francis’ turn, although he had decided that he would be the first of the six Snicketts children not to participate in a madrigal.
Into the later afternoon…
Sunshine time at the window, because it was still a little too cold to go out.
Jog.
And OLeif returned at his even more record-breaking 4:40. Amazing.
Soup and cornbread for Collette and Puck, which was not going so well for Puck. The soup bit.
“Poor little shirt,” said Puck, looking down upon his oversized grey sweatshirt.
And Puck learned how to point out Saint Louis on the little globe from their library. Although on that particular globe, it was spelled, ‘St. Luis’.
The evening…
OLeif had a seven o’clock meeting with Boogey and Alfonso at El Maguey.
For Collette: Justus’ blog in Japan, John Piper: 12/19/04, and Mom’s and Dad’s photos from the 70’s and 80’s, which included shots from when they had lived in Iowa and Arizona.
And OLeif returned with a four-pack of Reeses peanut butter cups. Good old chap.
In other news of the day…
Anneliese Redcoat was to have another sister. Three girls total in that family now, not including Idlewild.
