Back over to the house for tutoring, as Linnea had also returned with the bunch. And first on the list of to-dos was to check out the ‘horrific’ (as Carrie-Bri had described them) paisley pants that Rose had bought in Branson for ten dollars. Though Collette had to wonder who would have purchased them at their original ticket of $175…
They had also brought back fudge.
“Now you probably shouldn’t take this back to Collette,” Aunt Petunia had warned.
But Collette was able to control herself and had only a small piece, each, of the cookies ‘n cream, and the peanut butter.
Thunder rumbled in before nine o’clock. A menacing threat. But nothing fell.
Then suddenly sun revisited while Collette and Carrie ran a few errands for the week. And Carrie prepared a parmesan, ham, and potato casserole for dinner. And pumpkin muffins.
“I don’t like these,” she said. “Dad is going to be able to taste that they’re healthy.”
By the time Puck was going down for his nap, the storms whirred north of them again. But still no rain.
The afternoon was warm with the sun once more, but not too much so for a walk with Linnea-Irish and Puck. The alarming heat of August had not yet arrived.
And shortly later, there was a viewing of the latest Top Gear episode involving a top-heavy-Japanese-tranquility-rock-garden-caravan-car, which was still playing as Dad (back just in time for a jog before dinner), then Rose, and OLeif returned.
Then out for home after Carrie had sent them off with some of the fudge (so that Dad wouldn’t eat all of it) and His Girl Friday, which she and Rose had just finished watching, continuing on with their Cary Grant/old movie nights together.
As Puck was going down for the night, he took a final swig of water from his sippy.
“Mama,” he said, “I’m goin’ to be into a sugar man if I drink all dis water.”
And a quiet rustle of low evening winds in the greens and the soft gold sky.
In bigger news of the day, old-time friend down in Shreveport, Louisiana — Monday Blots — was going to be a mama.
