July 5

Day three of OLeif’s four-day weekend. Good thing for Collette and Puck, too, because he would be gone for eight days at the end of July with the youth in West Virginia.
Izzy had just left for Colorado, and OLeif, Collette, and Puck spent the day at the Silverspoon’s. No one seemed to be very hungry except for a box of giant chocolate truffles, which was distributed while Puck was napping, fortunately.
Puck was carrying on numerous conversations of random syllables and consonants.
“Na na?” Puck asked, as he followed her to the front door.
That evening, Carrie babysat the snoozing Puck while Mom, OLeif, Collette, and Linnea went to The Great Escape to watch Wall E. Shortly into the presentation, two bright strobes began to flash on the wall, and the loud foghorn of the fire alarm grunted on and off. A short time later, the lights came on.
“I thought they were special effects at first,” said Mom.
After the entire building had been evacuated, the fire truck arrived. It had been a false alarm. Collette decided that someone probably couldn’t pay for a movie ticket, so he pulled the alarm, waited for the hordes to cluster outside, mingled, then returned indoors when the theater was reopened without paying for a ticket. Conjecture.
The movie was good. Giant sodas and popcorn, maybe Collette’s second or third time to have movie popcorn.
As they left, the skies erupted with fireworks.
