July 7
It was hot. Humid. Oppressively so. There were errands to run that morning for Mom, Collette, Carrie-Bri, Linnea, and Puck. Nerissa’s baby shower was that Saturday, so they were at the store to purchase baby carriers for the twins.
Carrie was grumpy with the shopping because it was taking too long. After she found a tin of caffeine-free chai to add to Elizabeth’s birthday gifts, she wanted to end it.
“Are we about finished?” she asked.
Plans for the British Isles were not going as smoothly as she had hoped, which had ignited her irritation with the shopping in the first place.
“Mom, I’m thirsty,” said Linnea. “Could we get something to drink?”
“No,” Carrie commanded. “No more wasting money.”
Linnea wasn’t happy. Collette decided that the heat wasn’t helping. They returned to the house just in time to feed Puck his lunch.
As they left for the day, giant “thunderboomers” (as Dad would always say) blew in from the west.
After Collette’s walk, OLeif made peanut butter cookies.
