Home again.
And, as opposed to Monday morning, the heavens broke before eight o’clock. But it did not last long, and the sun had soon returned. Only to be halved again by the rain at 1:30, which disrupted the half-dozen workmen busy with the gas lines in the neighborhood. Followed, once again, by bright sun.
And all day long, Collette had to defend the peach bowl on the kitchen table from Puck’s hungry chubby hands.
Nearing 5:30, Mom brought over Francis and Linnea for tutoring while she attended her Tuesday night summer Bible study. Francis also mowed the lawn. And the two shared cake and ice cream while Collette set up the Vick’s Vapor hot steam humidifier (“dream maker”) for the Puck who seemed to have some sudden congestion in the wishy-washy weather.
During Linnea’s math session, Francis brought over a battery to her.
“Stick this on your tongue,” he told her. “Both parts.”
“Why? What will it do to me?”
“Just do it.”
“I don’t want to.”
“Come on. Be a man.”
Linnea took it, gingerly.
“Put out your tongue now!” Francis commanded. “Let me see the two terminals. Do it.”
Linnea passed it to Collette. “You do it first.”
Collette, knowing full-well the result, did so. It was a quick, biting hot shock. Linnea then refused to do it herself.
And OLeif was, once again, out with the guys for his Tuesday night group.
Meanwhile, Collette was feeling even better after having stumbled over another line of Danish princes in the 900’s in the family tree. And a few more sets of Frenchies, Scots, and even an extensive line of greats all born in Prague (“Bohemia”).
Francis and Linnea left towards nine o’clock under rain and fireflies.
