A day of cooler sun. Rose was cramming the last remaining hours with photo selections and bio revisions before the deadline for her yearbook pages had arrived.
By the afternoon, Collette was wrapping the roots of Carrie’s dreads with gold thread on the back patio. And Puck forgot about his summer cold while playing with weeds and pumice rocks in the landscaping.
That evening was Frances’ final game of the season before he left for Philmont. It wasn’t as bad as the first game had been, but it hadn’t been good. Fortunately, kids quickly forgot (or cared at all in the first place) about losses, and rushed off for their free sodas from the concession stand.
As Collette drove home that evening – a cave of gold in the clouds.
