Collette helped Puck read his Highlights magazine that morning. In one of the sketches, Puck carefully examined a couple of snails.
“Slinkies!” he exclaimed.
Collette sneaked in some green apple Runts that morning in between meals — leftover from her and OLeif’s trip to the movies to see “Up” the previous Saturday for OLeif’s early birthday celebration. This had also been accompanied by chicken fried steak and dirt cake at the Silverspoon’s, generous cash to put toward his messenger bag from his parents and Izzy, and a set of acrylic paints and canvas from Curly.
By the afternoon, the skies had turned gray. The windows were opened to the cool air over green lawns. And the golden glow of lamps once again lit the little house on the little hill. And with it came the rain and the thunder.
