Knives

Collette woke at 6:00 with reminisces of visions of milky white galaxies in her mind. She had seen them from earth in the heavens in a remote country near the water. Forests. There was something particularly special about that place, but she couldn’t remember enough about the dream to know what it was.

It was an early morning for everyone. The early service was sparse. Mollie was working the coffee machine. Reuben Honey was inducted into the order of the elders at the 10:30 service that, just about the time that Collette called OLeif on his cell phone, which he had forgotten to turn off before playing violin in front of church.

“Yeah, tell Collette thanks for that,” Judah told OLeif.

“It went off just as Sinai was ushering them in,” OLeif told her. “You know I was totally embarrassed… Kidding!”

Not much embarrassed OLeif.

When Puck had seen Linnea at church that morning, he lunged for her and gripped her in a bear hug around the neck. For most of the rest of the service, he gnawed on bulletin inserts, which Collette had rolled up into logs for him.

In other random news, Sinai was going to be a grandfather for the first time that year, two times over. He would be a very proud grandpa.

After some more running around, they headed for the Silverspoon’s in the chilly morning air. Around the lunch table, the boys had brought out a knife set which Theodore had purchased. Curly and Izzy soon busied themselves with cutting through random objects.

“Is this what the Scouts teach you to do with knives?” OLeif asked, as Izzy momentarily thought about testing the knife on his finger.

Izzy laughed.

“So… next time I need to cut through a plastic bottle,” OLeif said to Curly, who was sawing his way through the neck of a water bottle.

“You do if you catch one in the wild,” Curly retorted.

“Boys!” Denae scolded them for cutting through so many objects.

The knife set was eventually put away before anything else was cut to pieces. They retired to the living room while Puck finished his nap, to watch House.

When the Puck did wake up, he was nothing but grins for everyone. Dimples and giggles. Fortunately, all of the chocolate cake had already been finished, so he was not tempted to beg for any of it.

After five, OLeif scooted off to youth, and after the Puck was down for his slumbers, Collette half-watched a Travel Channel special on a sand castle competition.
