Last of September
Tuesday was cold. Mom and Linnea were busy doing lessons in the travel trailer again while Collette and Francis worked at the kitchen counter. Puck was busy eating crackers in his port-a-crib next to them.
While the kids were in choir that afternoon, Mom, Collette, and Carrie-Bri took the opportunity to shop at Costco. This, after Mom bought an artificial white pumpkin at Hobby Lobby to add to her orange pumpkin display around the wood-burning stove.
At Costco, Carrie made the difficult decision to leave behind the package of beautiful poppyseed muffins.
“Too dry,” she sighed.
But they were able to get two small birthday presents to add to Linnea’s beginning collection. She was turning eleven the following Tuesday. Eleda had already promised Linnea that she would tell Mrs. South, who would have the entire choir sing Happy Birthday to her.
Collette remembered her eleventh birthday. It was the semester before she and Carrie had officially joined the choir, after Collette had visited with Diana and Monday. That day the choir was supposed to have their first official concert. But Diana called Collette to tell her that it had been canceled. And it was easy to see why. They chatted while Collette watched out the dining room windows to the lovely white world of snow-covered lawns.
And on the way out of Costco, Mom treated them at the cafe.
A chicken bake for Carrie, and churros for Mom and Collette, all of which were shared with Francis and Linnea after picking them up shortly later.
They returned to a happy Puck who had been playing with his Aunt Rose in the travel trailer, and drinking juice.
The evening was reserved for laundry for Collette, and seminary for OLeif.
