Lazy Afternoon

Yali lasted about fifteen minutes in church that morning. Maybe fifteen. Then there were tears and general whining about the yellow highlighter that he just had to have from Puck’s drawing collection. So we quickly made our exit.

Taco salad casseroles at the Big House. Cherry and Thumper were also in attendance. A lazy Sunday afternoon in general. Then everyone who didn’t already have plans eventually landed on the porch in mild sunshine and light breezes.

Meanwhile Oxbear had a bad earache and left to get some more work done on the house, because we’re almost out of time to wrap it all up before the move. Carrie-Bri and Rose had been visiting a friend recovering from surgery at the hospital, with some homemade cookies. And Irish and Cherry ended up at the Zoo.

“Good luck finding parking on a day like this,” Carrie scoffed.

It was, indeed, a very anti-summer summer day. Proof came in the fact that both boys could run around the yard with double lime and coconut popsicles and still not have them melt before they finished.

“Hey, Mom!” Puck yelled to me from the tree swing. “You put the lime in the coconut!”

By the time we got back to the Silverspoon’s, Gloria and Ansel’s new fiancé were preparing to leave for Home Depot to gather paint swatches for wedding ideas.

Puck’s ears perked up. “Home Depot? Oooh! Can I come, too, and buy a steel rod?”

“No, you already have a steel rod,” Gloria laughed.

He had just purchased it the previous afternoon while picking up supplies with Oxbear to fix the house. Just a plain steel rod with holes in it. For no real reason except that it was Puck, and Puck always has ideas up in his head about how to make things work.

After the boys went to bed, Oxbear and I ended up down in the basement watching more “Jim Gaffigan”. Because he’s a pretty funny guy.
