Lettuce be Friends
Wednesday, September 21, 2005
The last day of summer… perhaps the most difficult summer Collette had ever been through, and yet at the same time (because of that fact), it had been one of the best. And she did not regret it.
All of Wednesday was spent in tutoring and reading “New Evidence that Demands a Verdict”. And surprisingly, Rose had shown interest in two new hobbies: beading (or jewelry making) and html.
And there was coffee that night – OLeif, Collette, Magnus, and Rose… Joseph, the blue-eyed was working. And Mollie showed up later wearing a t-shirt that said “Lettuce be friends” with a cartoon of a smiling lettuce plant beneath it.
“Oh!” Magnus had said, “A cabbage!”
And then Joe showed up and Elizabeth stopped in briefly for the key to OLeif’s and Collette’s apartment because she needed to use their printer. Then she and Carrie ran off to dye their hair after they had just received interviews at Holiday Inn (as waitresses). Joseph told them his full given name: Eli Joseph Thucydides Pie. And Mollie explained how she had accidentally been conned into going to home-coming with some guy named Roger.
“Yeah, I’ve decided home coming is pretty much a bad idea. I don’t like high school kids.”
Magnus seemed rather alarmed through this entire discussion. And he was picked up shortly later by his mother who came over to give Joseph a bag of cookies to bring back to the dorm.
The next gathering would be at the “Chosen by God” conference.
“Yeah, I’m planning on getting there at, like, 3:30,” Joseph boomed in his deep voice. “I’ll keep it cool, just time to rub shoulders. Maybe I’ll get a Pittsburgh sweatshirt or something,” he joked and laughed, as Dr. Sproul was born in Pittsburgh.
It promised to be an excellent conference, and Collette was looking forward to it.
