Little Old Honda

Rose had found a catalog in the mail displaying the usual Christmas gift baskets of cheeses, sausages, chocolates, etc. A picture of cheesecakes came across the page.

“Eeew.”

“What, you don’t like cheesecake?” Collette asked her.

“Well, not really. Though I had a cheesecake at work once that was so good, I almost cried.”

“What’s this doing out?” Mom asked later, when the catalog had been left on the kitchen table without an owner.

“Oh, Rose was circling things in it that she wants us to send her when she goes away to school.”

Mom laughed, “Rose, there’s a part of you we just couldn’t do without. That deserves a kiss.”

“Oh no!” Rose threw up both arms.

Mwha!

“There’s something I could do without,” Rose laughed grumpily.

“Mom!” Joe hollered obnoxiously, “Can I get a Japanese Peace Lily?!”

“Sure, I’ll give you a one-way ticket to Japan and you can get all the Japanese Peace Lilies you want,” Mom joked.

Then, because Rose didn’t seem to have anything better to do with her time, Mom asked her to replant her sad fern.

“No….” Rose groaned. “No plants today.”

“Oh, come on, Rose. It’s saying ‘Help me, Rose! Help me!'”

Rose thought about it while she practiced marching the goose step down the kitchen.

Meanwhile, the old Honda had taken another beating. Mom and Joe helped her drop it off at the dealership for another inspection. The poor car. It never seemed to last long without further injury. There was still time left after this occurrence to finish errands, which included Carrie purchasing Paige Popp’s wedding gift and Collette getting socks for Israel. And Mom getting her iced coffee.

But the best part of the day came at around three o’clock in the afternoon.

“Snow! Snow! Snow!”

Frances was thrilled. He and Linnea sat around their campfire in the backyard as the sleet and snow fell from the sky on early winter winds.
