Puck came padding into OLeif’s and Collette’s room at 6:08 that morning. However, after snuggling with them in bed for about thirty seconds, he decided he wanted to roam. So OLeif deposited him back into his crib until it was time for breakfast.
While Puck was busy with his oatmeal and banana, he dropped some of his breakfast down his shirt.
“Oh bumblebees!” he exclaimed.
He saw Collette drinking ice water.
“You drink your water, that’s right,” he said. “That’s a good boy, little Mama!”
And then there was that ever-illusive exclamation he made from time to time, that no one really knew what it meant:
“Arbria, Arbria, Arbria!”
Before leaving for the house, Puck marched into the library to visit OLeif and his vacuum cleaner that had arrived the previous afternoon in the mail.
“Lock the door,” he said. “’Cause I want your vacuum!”
There was a surprise over at the house. Since Collette’s favorite (one of two) holiday was St. Patrick’s Day, and because she had now basically confirmed that there was some Irish blood in their heritage, Mom, Carrie-Bri, and Rose had bought her a shockingly green
t-shirt that read:
“I (Shamrock) St. Patrick’s Day”
This was accompanied with an obnoxiously large campaign button in green which stated:
“Kiss me. I’m Irish.”
Puck wore this button, probably without even realizing it, for part of the morning, after he had played away two hours outdoors with his Lila.
When Linnea called Puck inside nearing the lunch hour, Puck had a carefully crafted reply, taken from the old Frog and Toad book series:
“‘I’m not here!,’ said the voice.”
Lunch was Carrie blending up her own hummus recipe, with dashes of this and dabs of that, which was very good, accompanied by white tortilla chips that Carrie had sliced and baked.
Then Mom returned from her errands with a coat that she had bought for Carrie: in bold white and black old French patterns.
Meanwhile…
-
Mom and Linnea were off to the last session of Linnea’s current gymnastics class, and then to ice cream with Mandarin O. and her mom.
-
Carrie took a walk on the nature trail for fresh near-spring air before leaving to meet Thor for his farewell dinner at Fast Eddie’s with all the old friends from Serbia.
-
Joe was half-way through mid-terms.
-
Rose was busy filling in the window wells.
-
And Francis biked off to hopefully meet Creole at the bridge.
For the rest of the day, Puck was outside in the balmy weather.
That night, they were in for a tornado watch.
