Sunday brought the frustration of hearing that Oyck would not be coming to St. Louis after all. Instead, he would be traveling to Atlanta. It was a pretty big disappointment.
But the winds were up, wild, whacky winds which shook the church roof. Collette liked that.
By the mid-afternoon, both of the grandmas had arrived for celebration. Grandma Combs had brought a personal-sized bottle of ginger ale for Collette. Mom had already given her three large bars of Swiss chocolate.
Then they paired up into teams: Grandma Combs and Mom, Jacob and Carrie-Bri, and Collette and Linnea, to play an old National Geographic game before Dad returned with KFC: fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, biscuits, red potato salad. It was the traditional Mother’s Day feast.
This was followed with violets for the grandmas (from OLeif and Collette), a bouquet of brightly colored flowers for Mom (also from OLeif and Collette), a “Starry Night” puzzle for Grandma Snicketts, a personalized t-shirt for Grandma Combs which read:
“’I am excessively diverted.’ – Elizabeth Bennett”,
“Little House on the Prairie” Season 6 for Mom, and a large Yankee Candle.
Then cake, and to home.
