“Mom!” Rose screeched, “There’s a bird in my room!”
“I’ll eat it!” Carrie yelled back, heading for Rose’s bedroom.
“No, don’t! It’s a wren… Oh no!”
The bird had done the inevitable on Rose’s bed. Once Carrie had released it back into the wild, Rose emerged grumpily from her room to attend to the dozens of ceramic dishes, bowls, and cups on the counter. Finals were over, and Rose had brought back the crop, every piece of pottery made since January.
Meanwhile, Mom, Collette, and Puck had spent their morning toward the Galleria, first at Crate & Barrel to purchase Amanda’s bridal shower gift: a colorful set of ceramic mixing bowls. Afterward, they hit the European bakery across the street for chocolate eclairs. Puck crooned for licks of the filling from time to time. Then they dropped by Rosciglione’s for cannolis and a pound of assorted Italian cookies.
Back on the ranch, as the rain fell and Puck napped, and while they watched “Little House”, Carrie-Bri was busy unwrapping all of Rose’s Werther Butterscotch pieces to use the gold wrappers to cover her Elvis picture frame.
“I was going to make a space suit with them,” she said. “But that would be too much butterscotch.”
When Puck woke from his nap, he danced to Carrie’s “You Ain’t Nothin’ But a Hound Dog” singing Elvis dog.
