The day began with the news that Violet Gentles was expecting a baby in early December. Carrie told Collette about it as she re-dyed Mom’s hair, and then washed it in the kitchen sink.
“Oh, Carrie!” Mom exclaimed. “That’s cold!”
“Get used to it, Mom,” said Carrie, keeping the faucet on cool. “Learn how to survive. What if you had to walk across a glacial landscape?”
“Carrie, what are my chances of walking across a glacial landscape?”
“Pretty good if we get sent into a nuclear winter by China.”
“Nuclear winter?”
“Uh huh.”
“Carrie, you were born into a comic book.”
Puck settled himself underneath the piano and began to read Jackie Chan’s biography, giving happy grunts.
Carrie was in the kitchen later in the morning mixing the glaze for an Hawaiian ham.
Later that evening, Bing, Carrie-Bri, and Rose came over for a Sci-Fi movie night:

“The War of the World” (original version of course)
and
“The Day of the Triffids” (Rose’s personal favorite)

There was also juice and coffee cake, and a lot of laughs over the two old movies.
“I don’t want to speak for Bing,” said Carrie, holding up “The War of the Worlds”, “but I have to personally say that this movie helped shape my life, growing up.”
Bing nodded, and laughed.
