Sunday morning, namely:
-
OLeif dropped off Collette and Puck at church at 7:30 before leaving for Memorial to arrive by 8:00, to practice his ‘Celtic fiddle’ for their 10:45 service and randomly visit a six-week Sunday School preparatory class for those interested in joining the short-term mission trip to the Red Lake Indian reservation, led by a half-Cherokee-half-Norwegian seminary student.
-
Rose joined the family at church for a revisit.
-
Joe was out at the lake with Aristotle George and Wally.
-
Baby Hesed was baptized, although at the later service, so Collette did not see the event take place.
-
Francis was picked up from his two-night Katy trip just in time for delicious grilled pork tenderloin, Mom-specialty mac ‘n cheese, and piles of donuts and cookies for dessert.
Francis was asked about his trip:
“Good,” he said. “Half the scouts were riding with their seats too low. Another Scout got his shoelace stuck in his gears and fell over. And then another one wasn’t watching his following distance and plowed into another Scout. And then Puff ‘o Lump got sick from the chicken…”
“How?”
“Well, I didn’t get sick. The chicken was burnt on the outside. But there was still some blood on it…”
Then there was the usual enclave in the living room while Mom and Dad napped.
“Ug,” Collette said finally, handing over the box of snickerdoodles. “Don’t let me eat anymore. I’m going to explode.”
“Collette is reaching critical mass,” Carrie-Bri grinned.
Then Rose discussed the future possibilities of apartments.
“I will come and cook and clean for you,” Carrie said mischievously, “And Puck will come and be the butler. And we will bake cookies and go to the Zoo…”
The conversation fluctuated to what had occurred at church the previous evening at the cook-out with their in-church band playing covers from Man of La Mancha.
“Lucia was talking to one of the seminary students who asked her what her favorite food was,” said Carrie. “And Lucia said, ‘Well, I’d have to say… cheese.’ And the girl was just dying of laughter at her. Lucia was so embarrassed.”
There was also the matter of the enormous Pentecostal flame with which Dr. Wintershine was experimenting for the following Saturday evening service…
That afternoon, Collette joined Mom on a Costco run, a rarity for Sundays. But supplies were needed for the week, in advance. All of Monday would be spent cleaning and preparing the travel trailer, where Linnea and Cherry would be living for six days, beginning Wednesday.
