The day opened with OLeif pulling his work badge out of the trash about ten minutes before the garbage truck thundered down the road. And about two minutes before the first, and only, rain of the day.
At nine o’clock, Mom, Francis, and Linnea arrived for tutoring and for Francis to mow Collette’s lawn, which had sprung up with the last series of rain.
Not long after their departure, Joe arrived briefly to look over transcripts.
After the usual afternoon of sidewalk chalk, a jog, and Puck’s bath, he held up his hands to show Collette.
“They’re all ‘burny’ he said.”
…which he meant to be ‘pruny’ of course.
For dinner, there was lasagna and chopped Mediterranean salad. Puck went for the salad first.
“These are leaves,” he said. “I eat the green.”
And despite the addition of the stronger flavors of red onion, balsamic vinegar, and pepper, he ate almost everything. Perhaps he did, indeed, have OLeif’s sense of taste.
That evening, OLeif met with Justus of Orange for coffee and discussion regarding Justus’ job in Japan. He would be leaving in July.
