Puck loved to clack his tongue and joined in happily when anyone else started their own tongue clacking.
He knew four words very well:
“Daduu” (Daddy)
“Juice”
“Duck”
“Woof-woofing” (the little dog next door)
Meanwhile, Rose had spent the night at the Tecumseh’s.
“Carrie made me,” she said. “Because of the burglary. Juliet and I were sitting on top of the roof eating our cheeseburgers. And we see this big fat guy without a shirt on, walk into the Rubies’ house. And we’re like, ‘Eew! Gross!’ And then a little while later, the police come. And they have their nightsticks and everything. And then, I see one of them and I knew he was going to come over. And then he did, and he asked if I had seen someone go inside. And I said that I had. And he asked if I would be willing to write up a statement, and I said sure. But then he said that I didn’t have to.”
That was Rose’s adventure of the week. Plus another two visits to the book fair. First with Juliet, then with OLeif after Moe’s, while Puck napped at the house under Collette’s watch on Sunday afternoon. (Mom and Linnea were still with Grandma at the Valley of Flowers weekend.)
When Carrie had talked to Rose earlier, still in Wisconsin, she said that she was the only girl at the workshop and that Joe kept embarrassing her due to foul odors. But that was to be expected in a gang of guys building an airplane.
That evening, OLeif and Rose took off for Linnea’s kids’ church choir production of “Camp Wise-n-Up” (where OLeif was playing violin), while Collette half-watched “Zoro” (the non-Snicketts/English production) around cooking green beans for the Puck and paper work.
