Memorial Day

Monday, May 26, 2008

Sunday had also featured hail, The Phoenix landing on Mars, and OLeif attending Susie’s evening graduation party. Collette stayed home with Puck who was snoozing through the amazingly loud thunder cracks and lightening bolts. When OLeif returned from the party with a bag of chicken rings for Collette, he hiked her up piggy-back style and brought her onto the soaked porch to watch the heavens glow and pour. Somewhere around 9:23, a lightening bolt hit so close and so loud, that Collette thought the house had been cracked in half.
Monday morning began with an 8:00 breakfast at the usual rendezvous, Cracker Barrel, for Diana, Collette, Carrie-Bri, and Eve. After an hour of catch-up, OLeif picked up Collette for a day at the lake with the Ryes on the Giraffes’ yacht.
The lake was cool and muggy. After a twenty-five mile excursion, they brought out the ribs, salami, cheese, and crackers and looked through Judah’s and Evangeline’s pictures from Guatemala. They had visited for Evangeline’s cousin’s wedding who was marrying a beautiful local girl who managed a mushroom farm. The reception took place amidst ruins. They also visited the ancient city of Tikal.
The night ended with Puck waking near to midnight with bad teething pains and a fever, the poor little chubby.
