Mischievous and Silly Things

The day was sun-filled and oddly un-August.
Back on the ranch, Mom led morning lessons with Frances and Linnea up in Carrie’s tree house, after the kids had added their own adjustments: tarp, bug net, coolers of supplies, etc. And Carrie did some reading up on the new roof, which had only been redone the day before after the damage from the July storms.
Inside, Collette worked with Rose on the various aspects of the solar system. Rose colored learning aid cards in magic marker of the planets, including Saturn with all its 27 moons. Despite the fact that she thought Venus was blue, the session went rather well.
Meanwhile, Troops had torn up Rose’s five dollar bill. Rose, who was still waiting on Wallace to pay back her 30 dollars, was not pleased. No doubt caught up in the frustration of the moment, she informed Joe to tell Wallace that she would punch him if he didn’t fork it over that very day.
Sometime around that incident, Frances walked through the living room, soaked from shirt to shorts.
“We had fun with the hose,” he exclaimed, dripping all over the wood floor.
Linnea came in directly behind him, also soaked, with her explanation.
“Frances was squirting a butterfly and I had to save it.”
While she talked, Frances took off his wet shirt and tossed it at her.
“Get it off, you mug shug!” Linnea threatened him, picking it up, preparing to chase him to the laundry room.
Linnea apparently was trying to call him a mug shot, although Collette wondered if Linnea even knew what a mug shot was.
Meanwhile, Carrie had come off the roof and showed Collette some cuddly engagement pictures of an old acquaintance, Eutychus Ski, and his fiance, an old kid from choir, Eugenia Cast-Iron.
“Eeeeeeew,” Carrie said, several times.
Over the rest of the day, Rose successfully passed her second Egyptology session and was rewarded with a grape juice from Mannino’s, courtesy of Carrie-Bri. Joe ordered his plaque for his Eagle project. Carrie was going to head off to Picasso’s with Elizabeth. And Collette was dropped off after teaching Rose math, by Mom and Rose, who then left for Hobby Lobby to purchase Rose’s tools for ceramics. Rose’s first class project would be a mask.
And OLeif again was obliged to work at home. During the painting session from the day before, one of the workers had knocked on the sprinkler in the ceiling causing the IT room to be flooded. So Wednesday morning was devoted to spraying for mold, another smell that might make the employees suspect to wooziness.
