Mom's "Favorite"
Tuesday, April 12, 2005
Collette knew she was in for a headache that day. Carrie-Bri had passed off the book, and Collette knew it would be too tempting to solve, and that her eyes would surely take a good beating.
The night before had been the Miss USA pageant, and Collette accidentally stumbled across it while OLeif was snoozing on the couch. It was too good to resist – she had to call Mom.
“Hey, Mom, your favorite show’s on.”
Collette heard the exaggerated huff and puff on the other end. Mom hated the Miss USA Pageant.
“Don’t you know it,” Mom laughed. “I just turned it on myself. Well, we’ll probably just watch the ball gown part… You’re not letting OLeif watch the swimming suit contest, are you?”
Collette laughed. But hadn’t Francis and Linnea met the reigning Miss USA with Grandma the year before? She was Miss Missouri and came from Florissant, of all places. She had given them both a signed picture.
And that Tuesday morning seemed somewhat less promising regarding weather conditions, however Collette figured it was best to hold off the rain a while longer, as Carrie and Joe were off with Louis Tecumseh to shoot clay pigeons at the nature reserve.
