Moons, Clouds, & Blankets

Over at the house…
While Collette fed Puck his bottle in the living room, Mom was teaching science to Francis and Linnea:
“The scientists in the late 1800’s thought that they had already discovered everything. Can you imagine all the things that hadn’t been made or found yet?”
“The tank,” said Francis.
“The toilet,” said Rose, predictably.
“The man on the moon,” said Mom.
“The alleged man on the moon,” said Carrie-Bri.
“The toilet.”
“Thank you, Rose.”
Mom continued:
“Quantum mechanics. Do you know who discovered quantum mechanics, Carrie?”
“Relevance South.” [Collette’s chemical engineer brother-in-law.]
“It was Albert Einstein. Actually, I know someone who met Albert Einstein. It was the pastor who married Dad and me. He was actually able to witness to Albert Einstein.”
Later, Francis could be seen outside by the fire pit with a leaf blower, creating a giant cloud of ash which was floating toward the neighbors’ yard. Francis laughed evilly and continued to make the cloud larger.
Inside, Collette and Linnea fought over the last crescent roll for lunch.
After Mom had dropped off Francis at Creole’s to go swimming, she returned to pick up Collette, Carrie, Linnea, and Puck to run several errands.
The first place was World Market. Carrie was holding Puck and found Collette over at imported chocolates:
“That lady just smiled at Puck and he burped at her,” Carrie informed her.
Later, Collette saw Carrie holding Puck near a handwoven red wool blanket from India.
“Get it, Mommy,” Carrie said for him. “I like it.”
Puck was holding onto a corner of it.
“No, Puck. No more fuzz.”
Collette removed his hand from the blanket, which was crossing dangerously close to his mouth.
“But I want it, Mom.”
The blanket was left on the rack and they left the store after Linnea had bought a box of Sixlets.
Trader Joe’s was next and Collette bought them a box of lime “fruit floes”. Carrie decided to try a box of chocolate-covered banana chips with her usual muffins.
During this time, Joe was at orientation and Rose was at home by herself, studying for another exam.
