More Basketball
OLeif began his morning with leftover pizza for breakfast. Collette couldn’t say she hadn’t done it before, and she would have been tempted, except that the leftovers were only the disgustingness of supreme.
“I think you always order half the pizza as supreme just so you can be sure I won’t eat any of it,” Collette told OLeif.
OLeif laughed, and didn’t disagree.
Another basketball game at the middle school down the road for Linnea. This time, Grandma Combs had come out, including Mom, Collette, and Frances. Rose was at work as usual, and Joe headed off to a car show. Dad, of course, was co-coaching with Mr. English. Frances and Collette sat in the top of the wood bleachers, laughing at various things throughout the game. Sometimes the girls were clustered so tightly in a corner under the hoop, that they had more of the appearance of a herd of frightened gazelles cornered by a lion.
“Traveling!” Frances would occasionally call out to the other team.
Or:
“Double dribble!”
After the game, Frances jogged home while the girls were awarded their stars. Linnea received a red one for “best defense”. She was pleased, despite the fact that they lost the game by a mere four baskets.
Then over to the Silverspoon’s where OLeif and Puck were already hanging out for the afternoon. Upon her arrival, OLeif was giggling over “Arrested Development”.
While there, Rose rang up Collette on the video chat from work.
“Hi!” Rose called from across the screen through a deafening squeal.
The squeal didn’t leave, so Rose shut off her mic while taking Collette on a silent tour of The Columns. Collette could see Elizabeth laughing and folding napkins in the background. The tour included two rooms.
Collette spent the rest of her evening trying to pretend that there wasn’t a near-full bag of Reeses peanut butter cups on the counter. The temptations of chocolate and peanut butter. Curses to whoever invented such a combination.
Meanwhile, down in Texas, Ariel (aka Ukulele Boy) was performing once again after a three-year break.
In other news, Curly had a new hair cut. He had asked Denae to come with him to the hair place for advice.
“You’re seventeen years old. Won’t you be embarrassed having your mom come with you?” Denae had laughed.
Apparently Curly didn’t mind and he had short hair again.
And Carrie-Bri was still in Texas with Kitts and Relevance, checking out Austin life.
