OLeif stowed his gear in the car, snagged a bag of breakfast croissants, biscuits, and juice at QT while filling up for the week, picked up his forgotten laptop at the house – where the lawnmower was attached to bungee cords attached to branches on the dead tree, waited poised for action in the back yard –where Puck was mesmerized with a morning rendition of “Shaun the Sheep”, returned Silverspoon and Snicketts Redbox back at McDonald’s, and was deposited at Theodore’s office for the morning.

Meanwhile, another few scratchy hours at the office for Collette.
Nothing more interesting.
Evangeline dropped off three boxes of empty binders for the church to make some good use of.
Henri kept packing away the last of his office-remnants. His laptop screensaver already displayed tropical beaches and palm trees. Psyching up for departure. Just one more on his way out.
Everything had sort of a wind-down feel.
And nothing much happened anywhere.

So…
A last scorcher of 106 followed by a weekend of – hopeful – storms. Collette walked the hot circle to the church and mailbox under burgeoning younger-sisters-to thunderheads over the low valley.

The ranch was involved with the usual – vet appointments, life guard duty, volleyball rehearsal, and reading lessons for Puck.
Several heavy tree branches lay in the yard. Apparently Francis had been somewhat successful.
Meanwhile, Linnea had stashed herself in her room with a volleyball friend for the afternoon with bowls of lunch.
Eventually, Carrie announced plans of a pancake-and-bacon dinner prior to Rose’s arrival to repair some mechanical devise.
But Collette pulled away an hysterical Puck in the heat of the early evening…
“Could I have grace, Mama?” he wailed on the ride back.

So they concluded another getting-used-to-excessive-heat evening with cats and baseball, after Puck had learned his lesson, Collette had slammed her foot into the piano raising welts, and Puck had more comments on the evening…
“Do you see this glum face, Mama?”

And cat hair.
Much unwanted cat hair.
Collette caught orange-eyed Floozie catching a drink, halfway in the loo before she placed her in the basement for the night.

Cats were annoying.

Announced early that evening was Matt Holliday replacing Yadi in the All Star Game. The grandfather of Yadi’s wife had passed away, sadly, and the family would be on bereavement leave in Puerto Rico.
Lance, meanwhile, was back in the thick of things again, surrounded by Jaime, Lynn, and Waino, who was flashing the Junior Bird Man glasses at Westbrook on first base.
