Mother's Day 2

Sunday, May 10, 2009

That morning, there was a vase of flowers on the kitchen table, and a package of glazed donut holes from the boys in celebration of Mother’s Day.
After church, back at the house, Puck was busy rolling around his large yellow dump truck calling out, “Beep! Beep!” every few seconds.
Then he ran into Carrie’s room, and ran right back out.
“I scared, I scared,” he said seriously. “Moon.”
Quickly forgetting about this, he started rolling his sippy back and forth across the living room floor with Joe, who hadn’t yet left for church.
By the time all the church shifts had returned, it was time for Mom to open her gifts, which included a digital photo frame and a case of mochachinos from Joe, a bundle of fresh flowers, “Jane Eyre” on DVD (the Masterpiece Theater version), and her book written by Collette.
Shortly later, both grandmas and the Combs arrived, just in time for the giant chocolate chip cookie to burn in the oven. Carrie and Puck quickly mixed up another, while some of the others mingled around the fire pit under the trees in the back yard.
And Dad left to pick up the KFC, a Mother’s Day tradition. This was combined with Aunt Petunia’s broccoli, cheese, and rice casserole, mashed potato casserole, and Mom’s macaroni and cheese, followed by the remade chocolate chip cookie and a fruit pizza.
