Movie Night
Wednesday, nearing the end of July, Francis was back at the books, hammering out multitudes of algebraic expressions, after two days of hard work with the mission trip kids.
Around 12:30, Creole and Puff ‘o Lump arrived to join Francis for biking around the area. After the tell-tale sign of ringing weights ticked out from the basement for twenty minutes.
About the middle of the day, a skunk came loping through the backyard. Linnea ran outside to inspect.
“It was so cute!” she cried. “It came right up to me!”
She ran back out with her camera.
“Rats. They’re gone.”
“They?” Collette asked.
“Yeah. There were two of them. And they were so soft too.”
“What!”
“I pet them. They were so nice. And it sounded like it was purring, or something… It made this weird grumbling sound. One of them smiled at me too.”
And shortly later, a very tanned Linnea with a new hair-cut, left for another lesson of gymnastics with Mandarin O.
“Watch me do the splits! Almost,” she had told Collette.
It was about as close as anyone in the family had ever got to reaching a full splits. She was only a few inches away.
And then she practiced her cartwheels and round-offs.
When Puck woke up from his nap, Carrie treated him to a little Dixie cup full of chocolate ice cream. Puck sat on the couch with a dish towel tied around his neck, carefully spooning the ice cream into his mouth.
It had been a long time since they had all had a movie night together.
And now that Eve was living in Indiana, it was down to Bing as the only English left for joining in some good old classic films fun.
So OLeif, Collette, Carrie-Bri, and Rose arrived at the very quiet English house (seeing as everyone but Bing was still on vacation).
And they caught up on some news over pizzas, chips, sodas, and cookies. Oddly enough, OLeif and Collette brought the exact same two sodas that Bing had already purchased. And Carrie-Bri and Rose had brought the exact same bag of chips that Bing had as well.
Bing was a very busy fellow.
Not only was he working at Oberweiss. But he had a second position at Barnes & Noble, and a third as a substitute music teacher in the local school district.
So they congregated at around 7:30 where the English’s bird began to serenade them with the Andy Griffith theme song, which he had learned while still at the pet store.
And for the next three hours, they laughed over Charlie Chaplin, Top Gear, and Swing Time.
