Moving On

It was an Irish day. And there were storms afoot.
Walking into church that morning, the still somewhat unseeded patch of ground appeared to be a miniature Mediterranean forest – little green weeds that looked like palm trees or great desert trees, tiny white flowers… it was like another little world underfoot.
Meanwhile, Stan-o had come back to Grace for a visit, wearing the same striped 70’s shirt and the same 70’s beard. Collette thought that it was highly unlikely she had ever seen him wear anything else.
“I’ve figured out what’s wrong with the Presbyterians,” he told OLeif and Collette that morning. “They don’t have anything to say about the end times. Even Calvin, the greatest theologian of all time, didn’t write a commentary on Revelation.”
Back for lunch at Mom’s and Dad’s, there was talk of the previous evening. Apparently, (and unsurprisingly), Wallace and Rose had had a bit of a “confrontation” involving a roaring toy dinosaur.
“Well…” Rose said, embarrassed. “He started it.”
Magnus’ graduation party was that afternoon from three to five at city hall with Evrain, the three Applebutters, Joe (Rose was at work), Ben-Hur, Wallace and Starr, Augustus, Curly, Molly, Aristotle George, and the rest of the Pi family, of course. Accompanied by a fantastic rainstorm (most of which Collette missed, but watched through the glass), there was also cake, packs of Red Bull, party mix (which included miniature summer sausages, to OLeif’s pure delight), and squiggles of red and white curly ribbon piled in the centers of the table.
Somewhere in between the two hours, Molly escaped into the calm before the storm. After the gullwasher had broken, she returned half-soaked and happily donned her crocheted hat from eBay.
“I’m joyful,” she said.
Following the party, most of the kids split for Hortense Succostash’s graduation party. Collette and the Puck were dropped back off at home and OLeif joined the youth for whatever plans they had for the evening.
