New and Wonderful Things

It was already Relevance and Kitts’ second anniversary.

And word from Idlewild was that little Anneliese was doing well except for a case of jaundice which was frustrating for Idlewild and Jordan because they couldn’t hold her except when she was being fed. The little thing had to be constantly wrapped in a special blanket under a bilirubin light until the jaundice left.

Also, Joe was to begin his full-time job that Tuesday, working on building maintenance, the dikes, etc. throughout the summer, building up muscle.

And Gus was experimenting with new food groups. Sunday at the Finn Inn, Mom had given him his first taste of cheese sauce. He must have found it at least somewhat pleasant, because he continued to lick his chops long after the cheese sauce was gone.

“Pickle! Give him a pickle!” Rose picked up a slice from her plate.

She let him lick it.

Gus tried to lick it again.

“Ketchup! Try ketchup!” Rose was on a role.

Although Collette was not certain that the ketchup ever made it to his hungry chompers. Dad suddenly found a good reason to end dinner.

Back at the house, however, Linnea found a miniature Tootsie pop. Gus sucked on it until Collette decided that there had been enough experimentation for one evening.
