Wake to the yellow cat galloping back and forth across my shoulders over and over again... I guess breakfast from his automatic feeder in Puck's room isn't being served fast enough...
Walking out to the Toyota for church... air unbroken perfect garden-stillness in early green before the rain... arrive to the back door just as the first deluge breaks...
Before the service begins... the family in the pew behind us is discussing storm radar while Patience attempts to engage me in a thumb war for no very particular reason...
Bake sale afterwards... Patience walks down the line of boxed pies and brownies – twice – with a short stack of cash... before I walk her and Yali to Sunday School...
Waiting with my notebook for Bible study to begin... Oxbear sloshes his coffee all over the table... and I realize in the moment that the hot brown liquid is flying towards me that it's not my dress in Byzantine blue or even my fringed Minnetonka boots that I move out of the way first... but it's the notebook... in the event of flying hot beverages – children and notebooks first!...
Leave church an hour later in my coffee-fringed t-shirt dress as sun pours over the lands...
Back home – despite the brownies and Rice Krispies treats indulged in earlier – Yali runs into the living room holding a galloon of Dutch chocolate in both hands... “No ice cream, Yali...” // “BUT! I need it for my BONES!”...
A few minutes later Puck walks into my room and throws himself onto my bed like a beached whale... “Spaghetti!” he declares... this house apparently requires an everlasting smorgasbord...
Meanwhile... all that severe weather hype seems to have been only hype... “We want everything to fizzle this afternoon...” says Scott Connell with Channel 5... not all of us, Scott, not all of us...
Still... sit out for awhile with my notebook stack... all the little green things pushing up... light wind and a roar of birdsong – happy fellas... rain hanging in the southwest... dog lounging on warm gravel... wasps whirring in the eaves for new build sites... low thunder grumble... and a cool blush of wind before the storm breaks...
