November 5
That morning, Puck had found a bag of plastic tokens used for mah-jongg, with square holes cut in their centers.
“Look at all of dem play, Mama,” he said happily, wriggling his fingers in them.
Collette and Puck took another walk around the neighborhood in the slightly warm later morning. Puck was very interested in seeing the ‘smashing mailbox’ once again. However, the mailbox and the fallen tree had been completely removed.
They spent a good portion of their day, morning and afternoon, out in the sun. Puck busied himself ‘fixing’ the trees and the garbage can and the stroller. Then he heard the sound of an engine starting up next door.
“Don’t worry,” he said coming over to pat Collette on the shoulder. “Don’t worry ’bout it. Don’t worry ’bout the baby light,” he said, pointing to the sun. “Just look at it. Turn you head.”
And he turned her head toward it.
Then he looked at her seriously and said, “Don’t eat duh ladybugs.”
Back inside, Puck asked for ‘chalk-oh-wet’ (chocolate). And Collette had to decline his request. Too much sugar for babies was a bad idea.
That evening, OLeif returned from seminary to make a large batch of chocolate chip cookies. Then he refilled Puck’s humidifier (which Puck called his ‘dream maker’). And Rose and Joe arrived for comedy night.
