October 1
Beautiful rain.
Beautiful storms.
And on October 1st, the daisies and the honeysuckle were still in bloom, confused, perhaps.
As the rain poured in, Collette let Puck lean out his window to see the activity. He found a pile of dried ‘helicopters’ wedged into the sill from the previous fall.
“Lines, Mama,” he said happily, “I throw lines down there in hole?”
He pointed to the ground.
Collette gave him permission to through the little helicopters out the window.
Then Puck got busy in the living room with the window shade. He pulled it close.
“I don’t see rain any more,” he said. “Rain’s cryin’.”
Then he pulled the shade back.
“See? I made it happy… It’s still not happy…”
That evening, with the windows still open to the cool rain, the kids came over for comedy night, and Joe brought a large bag of snacks.
