October 26

3:40 and the storm whipped up. Crashing winds and rain. But no thunder and lightening… oddly. It left as soon as it came.

Home again, home again…

Puck piled every pillow in the house on top of his sleeping parents before Collette pulled herself out of bed to prepare breakfast and see to morning chores.

The winds were still up, and beautiful, under striped skies, which could not at first seem to make up their minds to be violet or blue or cream. And the air was significantly chilled. A beautiful October, and even mixed with some late-blooming reds and yellows and oranges, with the confused honeysuckle and roses.

Collette and Puck struck out on another walk together, bundled up against the cold emerging sun and the wind with several layers and knit hats.

As they continued through the wild winds, Puck requested to stop in the middle of the road to take another look down the unnaturally deep hole in the pavement. Collette was still uncertain as to how it had happened. Perhaps four feet deep.

And the snake did not encounter them along the path that morning.

Home for hot grilled turkey sandwiches.

In the afternoon…

Collette opened the pomegranate. Puck was immediately fascinated. He climbed up on a chair at the counter and helped her peel the arils into a bowl of water. Or ‘arrows’, as he called them, or ‘little candies’. He easily consumed nearly half the ‘pomegramit’ in one sitting.

Later, Puck scrubbed himself down in the tub, saying, “In the beginning, God created… somethin’…”

Collette reminded him, and he grinned and repeated, “In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Erff… And somethin’…”

Then he jogged half of the time that Collette jogged.

Supper arrived…

Collette and Puck rather gorged themselves on Smucker’s Natural Creamy Peanut Butter, which was nothing more than creamed peanuts. That, and for Puck: whole grain bread, fresh spinach, apples, oranges, and milk.

That evening, Joe arrived for academic counsel as he prepared to delve back into the world of mathematics. And also for more comedic spectacles and Dairy Queen chocolate extreme ice cream waffle bowls.

O, temperance, temperance…
