Cool out…

Over at the house…

Dad was home between contracts, working on his PhD comprehensive final, and out for a long jog.

Carrie-Bri was even better, and highlighting Mom’s and Rose’s hair.

Collette worked with Francis on Scouts, MIZZOU prep for a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Aerospace Mechanics, ACT prep, and algebra. And she ate a Ghirardelli triple chocolate brownie for breakfast. Shame. Not to mention the sour pumpkin candies. O, the atrocities… She followed this up with researching gourmet fruit boxes for Grandma Snicketts’ upcoming birthday, scrapbooking paper for Mom, and Mediterranean cruises for Mom and Dad…

Joe had re-taped his bicycle handles, one of them being in cherry red on his Specialized.

And Francis attempted a chase-down of Rose with a dragon tail — pain.

In other news, their old next door neighbor, after having moved to Spokane nine years ago, was engaged.

Later in the morning…

Errands to Target with the boys for various sundries, including an Old Spice set for Francis, Hot Wheels sunnies for Puck, corduroys for OLeif, and a hoodie and protein powder for Joe, ‘to beat Francis to 170 pounds first’.

On the way back, the boys discussed how they would name their networks so that when the message popped up saying… ‘You are now connected to’… it would be ‘Your Roots’ or ‘Nothing’, etc.

In the afternoon…

Carrie and Rose were sitting in the living room on the couch preparing to go outside for their ’embroidery time’, as they called it. Catching up on sun and chatting, a sort of good old-fashioned Jane Austen hour.

Joe came into the kitchen to tell Collette… “Because Mom doesn’t care what happens to the carpet anymore, I’m going to paint a rocket ship on it with bleach.”

Then he and Puck built a fire in the back yard.

And Collette contemplated a high-iron diet of oatmeal, black beans, and fresh spinach.

It was a Hallowe’en party at church for the kids that night. Two hours never passed so quickly as they raced through crumbled tissue paper hearts, frosted cupcakes, orange fruit punch, little pumpkins filled with candy, Veggie Tales matching card games, pass the pumpkin games, Veggie Tales silly bands, and finally a Veggie Tales film spoofing Hamlet, or rather in this case, Omelet.

That night, OLeif returned late after Collette had gone to sleep, with a pair of genuine Australian sheepskin slippers that someone had given to him at work.
