Of Pirates
Friday, June 1, 2007
The first of June, and Collette and Puck were home for the day.
During his morning time being awake, Puck sat in his swing for awhile, running his little legs as fast as they would take him nowhere, trying to eat the tail of his stuffed tiger (known fondly as “Tiger”, a gift from his dad), and listening to Turkish music, making faces out the living room window.
Meanwhile, the family was in Ohio, Carrie was at work as usual, and Rose was out bowling with the Tecumsehs.
And it was time for OLeif and Collette to go out on a date, which they hadn’t done in a very long time.
First stop was to drop off Puck at the Silverspoon’s. Then it was off to the mall where they made it just in time for twenty minutes of advertisements and previews before the Pirates of the Caribbean III was viewed over buttered popcorn (either the third or fourth time Collette had tasted such at the movies in her lifetime) and a soda to share.
Collette found that she enjoyed the story of the movie – pirates of many nationalities (including Singapore, which was always more mysterious), the other world (Hades, if you will), armadas of white crabs, the Southern Pole, Scottish-brogued octopi, St. Elmo’s fire, even an ancient Greek goddess thrown into the mix. This was topped with an even less-than-Disney-like ending, which Collette equally appreciated.
And once again, she couldn’t help but wonder if her own family pirate had been a privateer or an actual pirate.
That night she dreamt of Judah, Garret, and Diana at an age-old wedding ceremony, surrounded by Collette’s family and people from the past in a darkened monastery-like cathedral, although she was pretty clueless as to the identity of the bride and groom. Sometimes those things came to her later.
