Oh, the Days...
Saturday, May 13, 2006
OLeif and Collette dropped off a bag each of oranges and apples and bottled water for the work crew at the church that morning and then Collette and Carrie worked on her papers while Carrie continued to rave over the Thursday night Ok Go concert and Dad listened to Michael Buble and worked with Joe on his final Eagle papers. Mom worked at the church, Rose slept in from being up late the night before (having been with OLeif, Joe, Ben-Hur, Wallace, Curly, Susie, and Molly over Piper and Burger King), Frances mowed the lawn, OLeif worked on the network at his folks’ house, and Linnea did her usual prowling after some donuts for breakfast and Curly had spent the night. It was a more productive Saturday, it would seem. And the winds blew in gray skies and white clouds and quite cold winds for May.
That afternoon, Collette took a walk around a neighborhood near the apartment while OLeif and Ben-Hur worked on completing the church website. There was nearly no one out and the winds were quite cold, still. There was fried chicken for dinner and Collette watched one of her favorite films, The Importance of Being Earnest, while the boys continued to work until nine.
Different sort of days, that beginning of May.
“The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the Captain did, too,
T’was the witch of November come stealing.
“The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashing
When afternoon came it was freezing rain
In the face of a hurricane West Wind.
