One Last Game
A last day, already, of February.
And a last day of the Games.
In other news…
-
Dad left for Cedar Falls after church after having turned around forty-five minutes later to pick up his forgotten dry-cleaning.
-
Carrie-Bri met with Lucia at Forest Park for the afternoon.
-
Francis was busy at a Mexico mission trip meeting and youth group.
-
And Linnea was busy preparing her next speech on cowboys.
In the afternoon, the last cross-country race was on, and Francis began talking about how, if he were in the race, he would attach jets to his skis.
But then came the big event: USA-Canada hockey match-up. And despite the controversial topic of professional athletes being allowed to play… it was a good game.
-
1st period: 1-0 Canada
-
2nd period 2-1 Canada (big goal by the U.S.)
-
3rd period was AMAZING — USA tied it in the last 24 seconds of play, incredible shot. Sudden death overtime!
And… that’s when everything stopped being good. But the Americans had the silver, and proudly so. It had been a great game. So not exactly a quixotic endeavor on the whole.
And what a Games! Perhaps better than Beijing. Two weeks of solid entertainment, pleasant Canadian hosts, and good American sportsmanship.
That night, in traditional celebration of the Closing Ceremonies, it was time for a DQ run. And, as was also Collette’s tradition, she ordered the usual cherry Mr. Misty float and a side of fries.
It had been a pretty awesome two weeks.
