"Or you could feed me to a plant..."

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

Tuesday began with a four-hour session of psychology, sociology, and geometry for Joe and Rose after Mom fixed eggs, cheese, and turkey on English muffins – quite tasty. And the wind blew furiously in the sunlight of a late afternoon in January as the kids left for choir (once again in attire, hair, and make-up styled by Carrie-Bri), who also left shortly after to have her long dark brown locks highlighted. Before lunch, however, Rose had her own ideas on things, as usual, which had to be expressed:

You two are digging your own grave,” Collette said, shaking her head, as the two began goofing off over math.

I don’t want to be six feet under,” Rose said promptly. “I’m going to get cremated. Actually, you can make me into a diamond ring. They do that now. And you guys can carry me around with you forever. Or you could feed me to a plant… What? It’s true. Some wacko environmentalists have their ashes given to their favorite tree… as compost! But I like the diamond ring. It’s better. I’ll make it a black diamond. But usually they’re yellow. I don’t know why…”

Mom’s shipment of candles from Joy Tecumseh’s candlelite party also arrived in the afternoon, including a box each of “scarlet blossoms,” “heirloom pearls,” and “pineapple pomegranate,” all of which Collette liked.

That evening, OLeif would pick her up from the house and they would head over to the Spinnings’ for dinner, along with Judah and Evangeline (who had just moved to St. Louis the day before). Collette was bringing a batch of caramel brownies (a recipe from Mom) and a half gallon of good vanilla ice cream.

Then the channels of the sea were seen.” – II Samuel 22:16a
