Linnea was busy illustrating Advent covers for the church bulletin contest. After sketching an entry of Jesus holding the sun in one hand, and the Earth in the other, she resumed math.
Rose had completed another exam, successfully, bringing her tally to 104 credits. Her finish line was in sight. And so was another day at Olga’s.
Carrie had left early that morning, after Grandma had dropped her off with Malaya for the thirteen-hour plus drive to Austin.
Later that afternoon, Joe brought back a snapshot of his latest drawing at school.
“Was that a live model?” Collette asked, looking at the face of the elderly man.
“No. Statue,” said Joe.
“It looks like you just took a picture of a bronze statue.
Are you sure you drew this?”
Joe just nodded, with a smile, then took Collette’s car keys to get the oil changed at the Honda dealership. Mr. Car Man was his middle name.
The day was gray from start to end. And Collette liked it.
